Have you ever considered growing
Mushrooms in your Garden?

There are many varieties of fungi that possess awesome qualities for the flower, veggie and kitchen gardens, or even just for general landscaping. These mushrooms may be grown with no greater effort than that required for growing plants or veggies.

  • Garden Giant
    Garden Giants5 lb. Sawdust Block

    Stropharia rugoso-annulata

The Garden Giant, or Wine Cap, grows naturally in gardens, on rotten straw like old haystacks, and on decomposing wood chips. It may be incorporated among dwarf fruit trees, implanted in trenches or frames, or installed between vegetable rows where an occasional dose of straw mulch is applied. Again, the trees and vegetables will provide some shade and humidity.

The Garden Giant mushroom tends to fruit during the warm summer months as low as 40° F. and as high as 90° F. Once inoculated, beds of the take 4-12 months to fruit. Flushes span 6 months to  years depending on care, location and the mass of colonized material. These mushrooms when very young mushrooms  are considered the most desirable for eating.

One 5lb. bag of spawn should inoculate about 20 square feet

  • Reishi Log

What is Reishi? Red Reishi (Ganoderma Lucidum), commonly known as Ling Zhi in Chinese, is a herbal mushroom known to have miraculous health benefits what’s so good about red reishi?

    • · It is non-toxic and can be taken daily without producing any side effects.
    • · When it is taken regularly, it can restore the body to its natural state, enabling all
        organs to function normally.
    • · Immune modulator – regulates and fine tunes the immune system.

Place logs in a shaded area and keep moist. Elevating the logs from the surface, creating stacks, or leaning against each other for support is best. Frequent and normal rainfall should keep them moist, but periodic soakings may be required during dry spells. If the logs receive no rainfall for two weeks, we recommend soaking them overnight in a tub or bucket of water.

Spring inoculated logs may produce mushrooms by Fall, but will typically take up to one year to mature. Once the log has matured, mushrooms will begin producing in spring when daytime temperatures have started reaching 75F.

Because of their lower humidity requirements, Reishi mushroom logs may also be grown "potted" indoors. Simply place one end of your log in a planter and fill with a mixture of sand and small gravel. "Water" your log at least once every two weeks by pouring water into the sand gravel mix, the log will soak it up. Mushroom conks and antlers will begin forming when the log has matured. Their slow and steady growth is fun to observe!

Properly maintained logs will continue to produce mushrooms for many seasons!

Each log is about 2 1/2 ft long x 4in diameter.

All logs come with a simple to follow set of instructions

    Reishi Tea

    • Soak Reishi in water until soft. Use sharp scissors cut into small pieces.  The smaller the better. For a person daily usage of 3 - 5 gms, add 1 quart water and boil for 30 minutes using low heat. Then simmer another 30 minutes. ( Note: Should only use clay pots or glassware, avoid the use of metallic containers.)
    • The boiled reishi can be used again until the bitter taste is gone. Usually, it is good for 2 - 3 times of boiling.
    • You can prepare 2 - 3 days portions at one time and keep in the refrigerator for daily use. Re-heat is best before use.
    • It is best to drink before each meal. For people with gastro-intestional concerns, have the brew after each meal.
    • If you dislike the bitter taste of the brew, add pure honey or stevia.. (Avoid the use of refined sugar.)
    • You can also mix reishi pieces with brandy or Chinese wine. Store for 3 - 4 months before use.
    • Used reishi pieces can be used as fertilizers for house plants.
    • Raw reishi should be stored in a dry place, but never in the refrigerator.
